This is our local pub, and although I painted it during January, a hot, dry month with no rainfall, I thought I’d try a ‘wet’ look, just as an experiment.

Our local pub at Charleston is the favourite for miles around. Maybe it’s the old-fashioned feel of the place, or the friendly service, or the food. Whatever it is, people come from miles around, every day of the week.

Black Rock is another of those mid-Northern towns in South Australia that declined almost to nothing when the railway disappeared in the late 20th century. But then, Black Rock was never more than tiny.
Pencil drawing. Image size 17cms x 26cms. Framed size 34cms x 44cms.

One of only a couple of buildings still standing at Lancelot, South Australia, the town that almost never was. This little stone cottage, so lovingly built by skilled stonemasons, is now home to lizards and crows.
Approximate size, framed, 63cms x 91cms

I photographed these boats as we waited for the ferry from the Isle of Skye to the Scottish mainland at Mallaig. The cottages in the background are actually made-up, but the real ones are something like these, but not exactly here.
Approximate size framed, 55cms x 72cms

I’ve painted this one from several angles at various times. It’s the kind of view I love, and the barn’s owner should be embarrassed, but probably isn’t, or he would have fixed it long ago.
Approx 40cms x 60cms inc. frame

Eilean Donan is a tiny island with a castle whose origins go back to the 13th century. It sits at the junction of three sea-lochs in the Scottish Highlands, the principal loch being Kyle of Lochalsh. We were there in 2017, as also was a British jet fighter that flew down the Loch at treetop altitude at maybe 800 kph, leaving everyone quivering for the next 15 minutes.
